Classic Hip Hop Lives – Masta Ace & Group Home
Story & Photos: Racquel Peacher
Friday January 19th, the First Annual Classic Hip Hop Lives Launch Party and concert was held at The Promontory Chicago. The special guest were MASTA ACE and Gang Starr affiliate GROUP HOME. The night also included an all-star lineup of Chicago DJ’s V Dub, Jamal Small’s, Sundance, Leon Rogers and Jay ILLA. This was a can’t miss event for any lover of 90’s Hip Hop.
The DJs in attendance played classic hip hop as the crowd poured in. Leon Rogers hosted the event with his comedic interludes.
Group Home members Lil Dap and Melaki The Nutcracker performed first with the band MoFitz Project playing some classics including Living Proof.
Masta Ace hit the stage performing Son of Yvonne and ending his set with ‘Born to Roll’. The crowd participation was great as Masta Ace and Strickland had the hip hop lovers singing some old school favs. Pearl Gates also hit the stage with his harmonies. One surprise of the night was Masta Ace returning to stage with a red graduation cap and hat mimicking the cover art on The Falling Season album.
After each set, Knowledge Beckom presented Group Home and Masta Ace a creative thank you. A custom 16×20 painted pic of the artists painted by our very own Racquel of ROC Customs. The artists were very grateful for the thoughtful gesture.
